Project Mese - The Garaboncias

Project Mese is my ongoing personal project themed around Hungarian mythology, fairy tales and superstitions.
As I'm developing the story of Mese I'm shaping its inhabitants, and now I feel comfortable to show some of the character designs with you.

The Garaboncias

Garaboncias are wizards in Hungarian folklore who learn their magic in a secret school. 13 of them study together, and when their school years are over, they all have to sit on the "Wheel of Fortune", and the first one who falls down dies - the other twelve receive magical powers. Most of them end up being wondering beggars slightly controlling the weather for some food and a place to stay. Not everyone is satisfied with their services, so if they are driven away by the townsfolk they summon a nasty storm as a sophisticated tool of revenge.

The biggest difference between the Garaboncias and the Taltos' magic is that the Garaboncias can only cast spells from books. Books that only they can read, and looks empty for those who are uneducated in their ways.
Their graduation hat reflect their mood, this one is usually not the fun and happy type.
